Our Hospital

The Bark Avenue building has been around since the 1960s. It was originally a full boarding facility with a built-in house where the owner used to live. The old kennel and grooming shop is now our current warehouse and the old house is used for offices and meetings. It was purchased in 1997 and redesigned to create a state of the art, all-inclusive service destination for pets and all their needs.

The Pet Resort, which includes grooming, boarding, and the later addition of daycare, was opened in the new building in July of 2004. The animal hospital was opened shortly thereafter and Bark Avenue Pet Supply opened its doors in March 2005 with the goal of providing healthful, natural pet foods that could not be found in the big box or chain stores. The hospital was initially leased by a local veterinary group and in 2009, Bark Avenue Animal Hospital was opened under the same ownership as the Pet Resort and Pet Supply store.

The Bark Avenue complex was designated an “Extraordinary Property” by the City of Mesa in 2015. Dr. Ryan Ainsworth purchased Bark Avenue as a whole in 2018 with goals to keep continuing to improve and to create a fun and comfortable environment for pets and all their needs while bringing the additional benefits and resources of our sister hospitals Mesa Northeast Animal Hospital and Noe’s Ark Animal Hospital.

AAHA Accredited

Our hospital is accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).

AAHA is the only organization that accredits veterinary practices in the United States and Canada. Practices that choose to pursue accreditation are evaluated on stringent quality standards that encompass all aspects of veterinary medicine—from pain management and patient care to team training and medical recordkeeping—and are continuously updated to keep accredited practice teams at the forefront of the profession.

Today, only 12%–15% of veterinary practices in the US and Canada hold the “AAHA-accredited” designation.
